Engineer/Paramedic Mark Carter
Engineer Carter died in the line of duty on June 4th, 2007 while working at Engine Company 37. Engineer Carter collapsed during lunch. Despite rapid treatment and transport by his fellow crew, Engineer Carter could not be saved. His death is under investigation at this time. He was laid to rest later that week at Greenwood Memorial Lawn, where most of the Fire Fighters lost in the line of duty are laid to rest.

FF/PM Brett Tarver
Firefighter/Paramedic Brett Tarver was killed in the line of duty battling a 5 alarm fire at the Southwest Supermarket at 35th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix. Brett ran out of air and became disoriented. It took several rescue crews to locate and extricate Brett, but unfortunately it was too late. Crews transported Brett to the hospital, and worked on him for over an hour. Brett was later laid to rest also at Greenwood Lawn.

Engineer Timothy J. Hale
Tim Hale was working overtime on Ambulance 3 with his partner and friend Dan Donahue. Ambulance 3 was called to the scene to transport an ill person, with Engine 3 already on the scene. As Tim and Dan were unloading the gurney, a drunk driver struck them and the apparatus at high speed. Tim was trapped between the ambulance and the pick up truck and sustained mortal injuries. Dan was thrown underneath the ambulance, but escaped with his life. Tim and Dan were transported to trauma centers, but Tim succumbed to his injuries during emergency surgery. Dan spent the night in the hospital and was released. Tim was laid to rest later that week at the Fire Fighters Memorial at Greenwood Park.
