Helicopter Hoist Training
Firebird 10
TRT members reported for training, as everyone experienced their first training on the new jointly owned Phoenix Police and Fire Departments helicopter. Designated Tail Number and call sign of Firebird 10, the twin engine Augusta A109 is the primary helicopter used for technical rescue incidents.
The new helicopter is equipped with seating for 4 members, and room for a stokes rescue basket. The aircraft is also equipped with a hoist so that rescuers and victims can be raised and lowered without having to find a stable landing zone, this making the rescues quicker and usually safer.
During this days training, each member had the opportunity to be raised into the helicopter, then lowered back to the ground.
C957 personnel are specially trained to operate the hoist on this aircraft.
