

New Station 8 - Ocho Loco "Reborn"

Fire Station 8 as its known today was “reborn” in 1989 and opened housing Engine 8, Trench 8, Heavy Rescue 8 and Car 877. The new station is located closer to downtown, and about 2 ˝ miles from the original location on Encanto.
Station 8 is located at 1025 East Polk Street, just North of the intersection of 11th Street and Van Buren Street. Firehouse 8’s unique first due area offers a variety of challenges. Firehouse 8’s area includes several low-income housing projects, high rent condo complexes, major industrial and commercial warehouse areas, a major rail transportation yard, and finally the Bank One Ball Park, home of the 2001 World Champions, The Arizona Diamondbacks.
In addition to its “first-due” area, firehouse 8 commonly responds into other stations areas as well. Station 8 is just a few miles from Sky Harbor International Airport, the 2nd busiest 3-runway airport in the world, and less than ˝ mile from the major downtown high rises of Phoenix.
Today, Station 8 houses Engine 8, Rescue 8, Support 8, C957 and the on-duty arson investigations unit. Station 8 averaged approximately 14 dispatches per shift, and is one of the homes of the Departments Technical Rescue Team.
Station 8 is a 5 bay, red brick station with enough apparatus parking for up to 10 units and sleeping quarters for 20 personnel.
This modern station has a workout room, modern kitchen and decontamination room to clean equipment after calls.
