The History of Station

Station 8 is located within the Historic Garfield Neighborhood, which falls within the Central City Village area of Phoenix. Central City is unique among the villages because its core is downtown, the urban center for the entire city. Downtown Phoenix, with its many government, business and cultural facilities is the focal point of the expanding metropolitan region. Many of the oldest neighborhoods in Phoenix surround the downtown, including the Garfield neighborhood. Some are designated historic districts and contain fine architecture and tree-lined streets. Most have strong neighborhood organizations that work on improvement efforts to enhance an old-fashioned neighborhood environment. Central City Village is a government and employment center; a transportation hub including freeways, public transit and Sky Harbor International Airport; and an exciting cultural, recreational and convention center.

Other notable landmarks in Station 8's "first due" include:

Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ball Park): Home of the 2001 World Champion Arizona Diamond Backs.

US Airways Center ( Formerly America West Arena): Home of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury

Downtown Phoenix:  Although Station 8 is located just outside of downtown, many of Station 8's calls are in Downtown.  Some of these places include: The Arizona Center, Bank One Tower, Hard Rock Cafe, Alice Coopers: Cooperstown, Majerle's Restaurant, The Hyatt Hotel and Phoenix City Hall.

Fire Administration:  Station 8 is only 1/2 mile from Phoenix Fire Departments Administration compound.  Located in this compound you can find all of the Fire Chiefs offices, The Phoenix Regional Dispatch Center who dispatches for 23 regional jurisdictions, The Mobile Computer Terminal (MCT) shop, and the Technical Services Operations Center, who manages and repairs all of the Fire Department Computer.
