Fire Investigations is also housed at Firehouse 8. Each shift, three fire investigators report to duty. Fire Investigators are called to the scene of suspicious fires to determine the cause as needed. Fire Investigations has a separate but attached area for their living quarters.
Fire Investigators are all assigned unmarked vehicles as their primary response vehicles.
On large incidents, Fire Investigators will respond in AV1 (Arson Van 1) and use this vehicle as their command post.
AV1 is a 1992 E-One custom rescue apparatus. There were originally 2 of these units purchased for use as a combination ambulance/engine company, but the concept was later abandoned. This apparatus was modified to make the back of the apparatus an air-conditioned office space. An added advantage to this apparatus is that the apparatus is equipped with a pump and booster tank. This gives the investigators the capability to put out hot spots they find while investigating, without the need for calling an engine company back to the scene.
