962 Water Rescue

Car into Canal

.

Units from Stations 24, 8, 44, 12 and 15 responded to this car into the canal in the early morning hours.  The vehicle had been traveling at high speed, lost control, and rolled over into the canal, with approximately 4 feet of water in it.  The passenger was rescued by Engine and Ladder 24 crews, whereas the driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed later by divers.  Station 8 crews originally responded for the rescue operation, but due to the complexity of extrication, and injuries sustained, switched to a recovery mode.  The 2nd victim was pronounced onscene, and later extricated by Phoenix Police Divers.
