Welcome to Firehouse8.com, Home of Engine Company 8 for the Phoenix Fire Department.  Station 8 is located just North of the intersection of 11th Street and Van Buren Street.  Firehouse 8’s unique first due area offers a variety of challenges.  Firehouse 8’s area includes several low-income housing projects,  high rent condo complexes,  major industrial and commercial warehouse areas, a major rail transportation yard, US Airway Center (formerly America West Arena) and finally Chase Field (Formerly Bank One Ball Park) , home of the 2001 World Champions, The Arizona Diamondbacks.

In addition to its “first-due” area, firehouse 8 commonly responds into other stations areas as well. Station 8 is just a few miles from Sky Harbor International Airport, the 2nd busiest 3-runway airport in the world, and less than ˝ mile from the major downtown high rises of Phoenix.

With such diverse population, Firehouse 8 is sure to see it all!

Firehouse 8 houses Engine 8, Rescue 8, Support 8, Car 957 and Fire Investigations.

Engine 8 is a four person Advanced Life Support (ALS) Company that included members of the Technical Rescue Team. (TRT)  The TRT team is responsible for calls such as Mountain Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Heavy Rescue and Water Rescue. There are 2 E.M.T. personnel and 2 Advanced Paramedic personnel assigned to Engine 8.

Rescue 8 is a 2 person, Basic Life Support (BLS) unit that provides emergency treatment and transportation on medical calls. In addition to treating and transporting the sick and injured, Rescue 8 responds to all structure fires with Engine 8 for additional manpower and fire fighter capabilities.  2 EMT personnel that are cross-trained as Firefighters staff Rescue 8.

Support 8 is the Technical Rescue Support truck that carries all of the specialized equipment needed to support the Engine on Technical Rescue calls. This truck is unmanned at this time, so members from Engine 8 will staff this truck when they are dispatched.

Squad 8 goes into service on July 5, 2006.  They will be a 5 person, TRT, HAZMAT Special Operations Unit with additional capabilities.  SQ8 will rotate EMS calls with E8 when not operating on a Special Operations call.

C957 is the on-duty Special Operations Safety Captain. C957 responds to all Special Operation Calls such as Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue calls.  C957 acts as both a support and safety officer to units operating on these calls.

Fire Investigations is also housed at Firehouse 8.  Each shift, three fire investigators report to duty. Fire Investigators are called to the scene of suspicious fires to determine the cause as needed.  Fire Investigations has a separate but attached area for their living quarters.

Firehouse 8 sits within Phoenix, which covers 484.5 square miles.  The City of Phoenix Fire Department has 51 stations, housing 58 Engine Companies, 14 Ladder Companies and 33 Rescues serving approximately 1.34 Million people.  In addition, there are several pieces of specialized support companies such as the TRT support and Haz-Mat supports, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) equipment, and miscellaneous other apparatus. Region wide, Phoenix Dispatches over 300,000 calls annually spanning 24 dispatch jurisdictions under a regional dispatch consortium that ensures the closest, most appropriate piece of apparatus responds, regardless of what city it may fall in. This is a truly innovative policy and works well in The Valley of the Sun.

Please look around our site and view the apparatus, personnel, the history of the station and the area.  You can also visit the official Firehouse 8 store and purchase the official off-duty clothing and other items from Firehouse 8.
